Accessnet

The fiber network where connections to customers can spliced unto.

Accesspoint

A point in the network, where the networks may be connected to a building.

AutoCAD

A software product that is used for maintaining drawings.

Building

An object that is used for maintaining frames and termination units.

Ccable work

A collection of network objects and/or work related to a mutation or addition to the existing network.

Client

The Client is equal to a Section name, the difference being the client requires the use of a server.

A fiber may be the client to a server cable, or a SDH-section a client on a WDM-connection.

Complete connection

A series of connections, connected by patches.

Connection

A series of fibers, connected by splices.

Corenet

The network that is being used for the main connections between different access nets

Dgn

A file extension for MicroStation-drawings.

Dwg

A file extension for AutoCAD-drawings.

Dxf

A file extension for AutoCAD-drawings.

Duct

A plastic pipe of a predefined diameter. Commonly used for blowing cables into.

Enclosure

A unit that is used for storing splices unto trays (cassettes).

Fiber

A vain in a cable.

Frame

A unit where termination unit's (patch / splice unit) are stored into.

GBKN

Grootschalige Basis Kaart Nederland, translated into Largescale Basic Map of the Netherlands.

Drawings with items like roads, buildings, curbs and lantern posts etc. drawn in high detail.

KLIC

Kabel, Leidingen, Informatie Centrum, translated into Cable, Ducts, Information Centre.

KLIC is an institute that collects and supplies information nationwide, on the subject of the subsurface infrastructure, excavations and related items.

Label

A label is used to identify objects, with a unique name.

Logical connection

A uninterrupted relation between two terminated fibers. This is a spliced-only route, with no interruption of patches.
For a core network, this is a Pop to Pop relation. For access network this is a Pop to Other location relation.

MapInfo

A software product used to produce geographical and topographical maps.

MicroStation

A software product used to maintain drawings.

OTDR

Optical Time Domain Reflectometrie OTDR is a method for measuring the connection / complete connection in dB.

The attenuation is usually displayed in relation to fiber distance.

Patch

A relation between two position on one or more termination units on the same location.

Patch unit

A collection of positions, where fibers are connected to a connector and which may be used to connect two positions by a pigtail / patch cord.

Pigtail

The connecting fiber that is used to connect an external cable (fiber on the splice tray) and the position on the patch unit.

Project number

The identification name/number of the cable work / project.

Rass splice

A splice made on the splice tray between two external cables. There is no connector and no fiber placed in the patch unit.

Ring

A large circular network that connections use in order to create a redundant connection.

Route

A path between two locations, e.g. Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

Route

A unique set of connections between two locations.

Section

A part of a complete connection, for example a route between two connections in a SDH-ring.

Section name

A name assigned to a complete connection, used to identify as specific series of connections, fibers and patches.

The name is made up of the start location and end location, followed by a set of properties on the connection.

Steered drilling

A drilling which may be directed (steered) while underground.

Server

Equal to a section name. The server is commonly used to create a protected ring.

Slack

A specific distance of the cable that has been rolled into a bundle. The additional length added allows for future work, and/or easier access to the enclosure.

A slack with status Reserved is used for future planned work.

Span

A reference to a cable of set of fibers that are in a connection.

Splice

A physical connection (weld) between two fibers.

Splice tray

An element in the splice unit or in an enclosure unto which a spliced fiber (connection) is placed.

Splice unit

A collection of trays, where fibers are splice unto a another fiber, a pigtail or a connector, which is in turn placed on a patch unit.

Splice scheme

A report in either Excel or HTML format on the splices, located in an enclosure or splice unit.

Tab

A file extension for MapInfo software.

Termination unit

A unit placed inside a frame where fibers are spliced or terminated on a tray.
